GearAndFish is a reader-supported website. This page explains, in plain language, how we make money — because you deserve to know before you click anything.
The short version
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer may pay us a small commission. You pay the same price either way. The commission comes from the retailer, not from an extra charge added to your purchase.

GearAndFish is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Other affiliate programs
We may also participate in affiliate programs with fishing retailers, tackle shops, manufacturers, and affiliate networks. These may include programs operated through networks such as Impact, AvantLink, ShareASale, CJ, or other relevant partners. Active partnerships can change over time.
What this does NOT affect
- Our recommendations. Commission rates do not determine which rods, reels, fish finders, line, tackle, or other products we recommend.
- Our rankings. A higher commission does not earn a product a better position in one of our guides.
- Your price. Using an affiliate link does not increase the price you pay.
- Our editorial judgment. We include drawbacks, limitations, and important trade-offs where they matter. If a popular product is a poor fit for a particular type of fishing or angler, we say so regardless of whether an affiliate link is available.
Why we use affiliate links
Researching fishing gear takes time. We compare specifications, read manuals and manufacturer documentation, review owner feedback, check retailer information, study discussions from experienced anglers, build comparison tables, and keep existing guides updated as products change.
Affiliate commissions help pay for that work and allow GearAndFish to remain free to read. We believe this is a better model than selling rankings or allowing brands to buy favorable editorial coverage.
